Marc was in Miss Fortna’s fifth-grade class. He lived in one of the new (at the time) houses on Fifth Avenue. Near Mrs. Lefkowtiz’s house. Bordering on the wooded area that led down to the old dump near the river. It was a great backyard, a bit of nature with a stream.

Miss Fortna was born in 1899, and some of us had parents who were her students. She was old school. At the end of the school year 1965, she allowed the class to have a talent show on a hot June day.

Marc was a very funny kid, and a huge Soupy Sales and 3 Stooges fan. So he wrote a skit.

2 boys walk towards each other from opposite ends of the front of the class. One with a back to Miss Fortna’s desk, the other moving from the windows opposite.

They face off.

“Hi”

“Hi”

“Hey, where’s that 5 bucks you owe me?”

“I don’t owe you 5 bucks, you owe me 5 bucks…”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah!”

Both turn around and run back and grab a paper plate full of whipped cream, rush up, and pow each other in the kisser. A big piece flies onto Miss Fortna’s desk. No encore.
